Memento trailer analysis

 

the trailer confuses audiences about what happened to the protagonist of the story which in a way puts us in his shoes as he is confused everyday because of his condition the director achieves this with editing and sound for example the flashbacks are quick cut showing how scattered his memory is they are also in black and white to show they are in the past. The non diegetic sound creating a on edge feeling as it goes on it gets faster and faster which is showing the plot line moving forward how fast phased and confusing this is for him then it slows again with his lines from the start of the trailer repeating to show his memory resetting the final seconds of the trailer the screen slowly goes dark with words coming on the screen which he doesn’t know who to attach them to. The reverse shot of the gun coming back to his hand also adds to the confusion perhaps showing his memory resetting
