health and safety in film making
there have been countless accidents on the sets of films since as early as the 1910s to the present day with the most recent incident happening during the filming of rust where Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed a member of the crew due to this the producers of rust are facing a lawsuit as it was clear they took shortcuts wanting to save money rather than prioritise safety
actions to avoid incidents like this
common sense
Prioritise safety
having the right protocol
risk assessments and management
how do we achieve these points?
common sense
this one is pretty self explanatory simply not taking stupid risks like pointing a possibly loaded gun at someone and not even checking if it is loaded
if you simply do as you are told and follow the rules manny incidents would be avoided
protocol
rules that all actors and staff alike should have a clear understanding of
having medical staff on standby
weapon specialists who will know everything about the mechanics of the weapons being used and the auminition to avoid any accidents
gun safety
again medical staff on standby in case there is an accident
gun and ammunition specialists who will know the ins and outs of the weapons on sets
and do not take any unnecessary risks like pointing a gun at someone
